Stop Wasting Your Creative Energy on an Argument That Never Ends

Hey, Bold Soul,

I want to ask you something. How much energy have you spent this year trying to convince someone who was never going to change their mind?

Take a second and actually count it. The comment threads, the family dinners, the group chats where you typed something out, deleted it, retyped it, and sent it anyway. That's a BIG HUGE energy leak, and most of us don't even notice it happening until we're exhausted and not entirely sure why.

Here's what I've learned after years of watching myself do this. There's a real difference between a problem-solving mindset and a mindset that just wants to fight with people who don't agree with you. One of them moves you forward. The other one just keeps you stuck in the same argument, over and over, with nothing to show for it.

Next time you feel that familiar spike, whether it's a Facebook post or a comment from someone in your own living room, try this. Notice the trigger before you react to it. Get curious about where it's coming from. Ask yourself if that person's opinion actually deserves the power you're about to hand it. A lot of the time, it doesn't. And there's so much more to someone's political stance than you see in front of you. There's decades of conditioning and programming that can't be undone through tiring discussions and arguments.

You are not a victim in these moments. You are in control. You have power, and you get to decide where your energy goes.

When you shift out of a defensive mindset and into an empowered one, something opens up. Your creative energy comes back online. You start using that energy to build the things you actually care about, instead of defending a position to someone who stopped listening a long time ago. And sometimes, that shift shows you something else too, that a relationship built entirely on disagreement doesn't have to stay in your orbit. That's not failure, that's discernment.

Create the space to find peace and discernment in where your energy can best serve humanity.

This week, I'd encourage you to notice one place where you're leaking energy into a fight that isn't going anywhere, and ask yourself what you could build instead if you redirected it.

Send this to someone who really needs to shift their energy.
