Peace is More Attainable Than You Might Think
Hey, Bold Soul,
Today is the International Day of Peace. And every year when this day rolls around, I notice the same thing. Most of the conversation is about peace “out there”, between countries, between communities, between people who disagree.
But I want to talk about the peace that starts a lot closer to home! I’m talking about the peace you make with YOURSELF.
Here's what I've noticed, both in my own life and in the work I do with clients: you cannot pour peace into your relationships, your team, or your family from a place that's at war with itself. The energy you bring into every room starts in your HEART! And the version of you who's still trying to prove something, or who’s running on empty from holding it all together, or talking to herself in a way she'd never let anyone else get away with, is showing up everywhere else too, whether you realize it or not.
So today, I want to give you something small to try on for size. Don’t worry, it’s not a five-step plan, not a big life overhaul, just two minutes.
Here are a few ways to spend them:
- Consider one uncomfortable feeling instead of rushing past it - when you find yourself bothered by something, try asking your heart what’s going on…what value is being threatened? There’s something there, I bet.
- Say one kind thing to yourself out loud, even if it feels a little awkward - negative cut downs have a tendency to cut deeper than we realize, and they stay unhealed for longer than we know too. Even the way you talk to yourself can be hurtful - pay attention - and turn it around! Try using encouraging, complimenting words as your self talk instead of thinking or saying things that aren’t kind to yourself. Your subconscious is listening - all the time.
- Put your hand on your chest and breathe until your shoulders drop - this signals to your nervous system that you’re safe and helps you regroup if you’re experiencing a stressful time.
- Forgive yourself for something small you've been carrying around - stop holding grudges against yourself. You did your best with what you had at the time. Forgive and move forward, dear soul.
- Get quiet for a second and notice what's actually true for you right now - OH EM GEE…we move way too fast all the freaking time and we miss important messages from our higher selves, our inner child, our heart. Pause and listen to that wisdom, especially if you don’t know the answer to something.
Here's what I want you to know. When you do this, even in small doses, your whole tone starts to change, and you find yourself responding differently to the people around you, because your internal energy shifted. Peace WITHIN you becomes peace other people can actually FEEL.
Now imagine if each of us did this every single day. Two minutes, multiplied across all of us, ripples into homes, teams, communities, even the stranger you pass in the parking lot. We have the power to create change in this world…and we’re not even using it nearly enough. Let’s freaking do this.
World peace starts as personal peace. Today's as good a day as any to begin.
Keep becoming YOU!
